Evaluation Oversight Committee (EOC)

The Office of the Director appointed an NCCCP Pilot Evaluation Oversight Committee (EOC) that will provide oversight for the pilot evaluation process. The Chair has extensive experience in community-based cancer program evaluation and serves ex-officio as a member of the NCCCP Pilot Advisory Committee to participate as necessary, to allow for communication and input from the Advisory Committee into the pilot evaluation process. Membership on the EOC includes external expertise in areas (e.g., community cancer program evaluation, cancer programs and community-based healthcare, healthcare disparities, a community cancer clinician with expertise in clinical trials) and represent private medical practices and various institutions, including Brown University, University of Illinois, University of North Carolina, the Medical College of South Carolina, and Kaiser Permanente.

The EOC was instrumental in identifying the evaluation contractor, an independent program evaluator that will conduct qualitative and quantitative data analyses and issue recommendations.

In September 2007, RTI International (RTI) (www.rti.org) was selected to evaluate the NCCCP pilot. For this evaluation, RTI will start by working to thoroughly understand the NCCCP and developing a comprehensive evaluation plan. This plan will be used to guide the development of metrics and methods to assess the program over the next 3.5 years. RTI will be responsible for conducting comparative case studies, a cost study, and a patient survey, and in providing ongoing feedback to NCI staff on overall program development.
